He began his journey as a monk at St. Samuel Monastery in Upper Egypt. From there, Father Matthew was placed in many monasteries until 1969 when he was moved to St. Macarius Monastery. Upon arrival, St. Macarius Monastery was in ruins. The Monks, including Father Matthew, restored the monastery. During his lifetime, Father Matthew wrote many books that cover all aspects of religious life.
